Carol celebrated her 50th birthday with a Southern styled ‘down on the farm’ Summer BBQ with family and friends in Alexandria, VA. Guests stayed cool with custom cocktails that guests described as the perfect blend of a mint julep and a dark and stormy. The savory aromas of whole smoked pig and the best local produce, blue grass melodies and the laughter of children rolling down the hill filled the air. Carol’s father, a Congressman, gave a heartfelt blessing as the party began. Lawn games including hoola-hoops, bocce ball and cornhole kept the children busy while cozy lounges made of hay bales and picnic blankets allowed for parents to keep a close eye. Farm fresh berries and veggies for snacking dotted the casual seating, an abundance of sunflowers and daisies (Carol’s favorite flower), and bars made of old doors and hay were just some of the details that helped to create a sense of country nostalgia. Carol’s own restored vintage pick-up truck (a wedding gift from her husband years ago) transformed into a lemonade and iced tea station would have been the show-stopper, if it wasn’t for a the fireworks display during the Happy Birthday. The party continued with campfire s’mores, glow stick fun and a dessert display that included red velvet whoopie pies, miniature coke-floats, and seasonal pies. Guests left with potted daises for their own gardens.
